One definition of a hero is a person noted for courageous acts or nobility of character. Earlier this month Nike decided to take the chance on a NFL player who decided to take a stand against police brutality, by taking a knee during the national anthem before every football game. This selfless act drew much attention, which landed him in some pretty hot water with the NFL, some players, owners and even the president of the United States.

Now I don’t believe that he had any idea of the repercussions of this simple act of taking a knee to bring awareness to police brutality in the United States, or what it would ultimately cost him personally. The losing of his job, the losing of millions of dollars in endorsements and the losing of some longtime personal relationships with other teammates, owners and fans.
With no end insight and all other teams treating him like a leper, he stood on his principles and stuck to his guns. Just like the greatest hero of all time Mohammed Ali. He too sacrificed himself for the greater good and took a stand on a principal that he believed in.
I’m talking about Colin Kaepernick. Now two years later Nike decided to stand with Colin Kaepernick. A very bold move on Nike’s part. I say bravo Nike bravo. Colin had no idea of the outcome of his selfless sacrifice that he made to bring awareness to the problem of police brutality in the United States, that has been going on for many decades. When one stands for something that benefits others it’s an indication of ones humanity.
Nike has made Colin the face of their new Just do it campaign. Now I know Nike is a company and all companies are run by a person making the decisions. That person chose to choose humanity and stand with Colin.
So whether we choose to stand with Colin and Nike or choose to stand on the many issues we could stand up for. Let’s imagine our face on the cover of the magazine or the cereal box and make the humane choice and stand up for something.
Smoke That Over.
