Sixteen Shots Too Many

Chicago like many other major cities in the United States is unfortunately experiencing a multitude of police executions of its citizens. In 94% of these cases the people being executed are African American. Me myself and a large majority of other human beings find this unacceptable. The problem is very simple, stop shooting unarmed African Americans.

Now I suppose that some may say that the African American on African American crime statistics are very high, and they would be right but that’s a topic for another day. Today I am compelled to comment on the Laquan McDonald death by police officer Jason Van Dyke.

The shooting took place on October 20, 2014 and the case is just now getting to trial. It really pains me to see how divided we can be when race is such a prevalent issue in a murder case.

The media unwillingly or willingly perpetuates the division between the races. White police officer shoots unarmed black teenager, black teenager runs from white police officer and is shot in the back 16 times, black man gunned down by white police officers or white police officer in fear for his life because a black man has a cell phone, a hairbrush, his wallet he thought was a gun or just a empty hand.

The media tends to forget that there was a loss of life and perpetuating the racial divide seems to be their main agenda. One life lost, one life fighting for his freedom. Somehow the most importance issue seems to be overlooked and that is a human being lost his life and another human being took a life.

We don’t see the two human beings that are affected by this horrific situation. We just see black and white. Both sides standing on week principles that can’t ever bring anyone together.

We have to search our hearts and look beyond our physical appearances and look deeper at how we are the same, we are all human beings. Let’s turn down the TV and turn up our humanity and lets start treating each other like humans being.

Smoke That Over. I am human R.U.?
