My Daddy Can Beat Your Daddy

Remember when we used to broker back-alley fights, pitting father against father?

“My daddy can beat your daddy.”
“No, he can’t. My daddy can beat your daddy.”
“My daddy is way stronger than your daddy.”
“No, he not. My daddy is way taller than your daddy.”
“So? My daddy is way faster than your daddy.”
“No, he’s not. My daddy can lift the whole car by himself.”
“No, he can’t. My daddy can lift the whole truck by himself.”
“Yo daddy got that gray spot in his hair.”
“Yo daddy doesn’t have any hair!”
“What are you going to do about it?”
“What are you going to do about it?”

Remember when we used to be proud of our fathers? What are you going to do about it? Call your daddy! He may have something different to tell you this time.

Tell him a story about yourself—let him get to know you again. Talk to him. It’s been too long since you talked.Do you remember why you were so mad? If so, talk about it, forget it, forgive him, and move forward. He has grandsons that need to know his story, as well as you.
