A Wave And A Smile

Sunday morning was a good day for my mom and I. We decided to do a little shopping for her and pick up a couple of new outfits. Our first stop was at the car wash. While sitting and waiting for our turn, my mom picked up one of my motorcycle gloves and put it on.

She found that only having one glove was kind of funny and she began waving at me, while we sat waiting our turn to get into the car wash. It made us both smile and laugh.

Leaving the car wash, my mom began to wave and smile at all the cars and trucks we passed. At every stoplight she waved and smiled until she got a wave and a smile back.

On the highway she waved at all the truckers and they waved, smiled and blew their horns. This became a fun game for us, waving and smiling at strangers on the road and receiving waves and smiles back.

Even when we rolled through the hood and pulled up next to a big black Cadillac Escalade, Filled with smoke  from those “funny cigarettes”, as my mother used to call them.

She waved and smiled. To my surprise, the driver side and rear window both slowly lowered, releasing a blanket of thick smoke from the interior of the suv.

The driver and his three passengers smiled and cheered her on.”Hey Ma Ma, how are you doing?“ They smiled, cheered and waved, while hanging out of the window as they pulled off when the light changed to green.

I must admit I was holding my breath for a moment, because you don’t know who’s in the vehicle next to you these days or what’s on their mind.

A genuine smile and a gentle wave can soften the hardest hearts. It takes less energy to smile than to frown. A smile shows that you’re human and a wave shows that you’re a friend.

Be a friendly human and make someone’s day brighter. Spending time with my mom in her latter years has shown me a whole lot.

I am human R U?

Smoke that over.
