It’s January in Chicago again and there are a couple of things we can all count on, it being cold and windy and the celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Junior’s birthday.
Dr. King’s birthday is actually January 15. I suppose it’s a good thing to celebrate Dr. King’s birthday seeing how he was such a great influence in the civil rights movement.

His famous I have a dream speech will be recited by grandma and school kids throughout the nation in celebration and remembrance of him.
College professors will discuss the motivating factors that inspired him to write it during the civil rights movement. Dr. King was an inspiration for all people and his legacy will go on for decades to come.
So in 2019 have we overcome? Are we living the dream? Are we free? I asked myself these questions, As I remember visiting Atlanta and going to the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial and looking upon the newly thin revealed statue of Dr. King.
I had some reservations about the statute when I observed that his feet and legs were still encased in a block of granite. I wondered about this, why would the sculptor have his legs still bound at the feet as if to keep him in chains.
The man stood for freedom, the man preached about freedom, the man marched for freedom and was assassinated for what he believed in and was willing to fight for.
I found that the sculpture didn’t reflect his beliefs. What do you think?
Smoked that over. I Am Human Are You?
