Good Cop Bad Cop

I’m going to go out on a limb and say no one really wants to have an encounter with the police .No honest law abiding citizen really wants to have an encounter with law enforcement and definitely the bad guys and lawbreakers definitely don’t want to have an encounter with the police, but the police aren’t necessarily all the same.

As one of those hard working honest law abiding citizens, it was an unexpected encounter with law enforcement which prompted me to write this blog.

None of us leave out from their homes to take care of their day to day comings and goings, planning to be involved in a collision or accident, but it happens. In fact this happened to me this past weekend.

My brand new 2020 Chevy Silverado was wrecked. Thank God no human injuries Just personal damage. Damage That can be repaired. After determining no one was hurt, Now it was time to call the cops.

For a brief moment my heart started beating a little faster and a slight sense of fear came over me. Not knowing once the cops arrive, how this event would end up.

Not worried about tags being out of date. Not worried about not having insurance. Not worried about driving under the influence. Not worried about driving with a loaded unregistered weapon. Not even worried about driving with drugs and open alcohol in the car.

You see law abiding citizens don’t worry about these things because they don’t do these things. The fear came because I did not know what type of cop would show up at the scene.

You see for Some of us With Brown or black skin, all it takes is for the wrong cop to show up and I go home in a body bag.

We’ve seen this to many times. Where a motorist is gunned down in a simple traffic stop, if they have an encounter with the Wrong  cops.

My heart was racing and yes I was a little afraid. Thank God the three cops that showed up were very professional, concerned and helpful.

My relief was noticed by one of the young  cops, when he asked was I OK ? and my response was {I am now thanks for asking}  He said I understand.

The officer noticed the relief on my face when I knew that he was one of the good cops. There were no unnecessary asked questions. There was no disrespect. There was no pre-conceive notions about me.

So he didn’t have his hand on his gun ready to shoot. A young cop knowing how to assess a situation and applying his assessment correctly to the situation.

He is a good cop. So I say this. Great job to the Dolton Police Department for hiring good cops.  There is no need to talk about the bad cops.

Smoke That Over.

  1. I know that feeling very well. I was stopped and ticketed for singing while driving and being black. The officer did go for his gun. When reported to the judge in court, I was just brushed off and told to pay the fine.
