Things Your Father Would Have Loved To Have Told You – Part One

Son, it is with all that is within me and my true desire to be the example of the father I pray I could be.

I know that I’m not perfect, and I make mistakes—as you will too. Don’t be so hard on yourself, I would tell you.

I hope I show you that a relationship with God is important. I tried to be an example of what I was told a Christian man was, only to now realize that I may have steered you wrong. The Bible will do the correcting. And if I showed you anything, you saw me read my Bible.

I hope I’ve shown you how to treat a wife—how to choose cautiously, to know how to find that good thing. I hope I showed you right.

I hope I showed you how to be a man of integrity and a man of his word—knowing when to speak and when to walk away. A hard-working man, an honest man—I hope I showed you well.

Well enough to be able to navigate this world by not being afraid, by trusting yourself, and by being willing to take a chance on yourself.

Fear is going to come on all four sides. I hope I showed you that when it comes, you know to stand still. Realize that you have no fear because you have a belief in God. I hope I showed you that.

Don’t trust nobody—but there are people you can trust. Make wise decisions with your money, your friends, and your profession. Be mindful and cautious over things that come too quick, and understand that patience can save you.

I pray for you every day, though you may have never seen it. My circumstances may have taken me away from you—that is not your fault, and I am sorry for that. I’m sorry.

I should’ve fought harder. I shouldn’t have pulled the trigger. I shouldn’t have run away. That’s on me, son. And again, I’m sorry. So today, I’m asking: Son, can we talk?
