Recently Starbucks announced that they would be offering sensitivity cultural training for its employees throughout the nation. Starbucks Corporation took it upon itself to publicly announce that it would be the front-runner in making it’s employees attend these trainings.
One would think that understanding someone else’s culture would be a natural thing for a human being, but it’s unfortunate that so many companies employ individuals who lack the basic humanity that we all should have. It is also unfortunate that due to recent events throughout the nation we are discovering that too many people lack the common sense to treat everyone as equals regardless of race, gender or personal lifestyle.
We have to thank social media for bringing this long time condition to the public light. It should be obvious that if anyone comes in to anyones establishment to patronize that establishment, that they would be treated with the respect and common courtesy that everyone deserves and would want themselves.
It’s a no brainer that you don’t want to be profiled as a terrorist, shoplifter, thief, crook, murder, kidnapper, Robber, thug, arsonist, homeless person, suspect, burglar, etc. etc. etc. This has got to stop. Starbucks has decided to do what some parents failed to do with their children, what the church is failing to do with their congregations and what people are failing to do what themselves.
What is the big failure that’s plaguing the nation? The lack of humanity and failure to treat people like human beings with the dignity and humanity that we all deserve. Way to go Starbucks. Who’s next?
