My Son,

I know we haven’t met, and my absence may have caused you some concerns. Those questions in your head that you told yourself you would always ask me when we met—I have those answers.

Let me say this first: forgive me, son, for my absence and my neglect. I have no excuses. I see how your environment has influenced you in your chosen profession. I should have been a better example.

I allowed the jungle to swallow you up, and now I see it has made you the man you are today. I want to tell you—I’m proud of you, son. I’ve been down that road you’re headed toward, and if you would take a piece of advice from your old man: be careful out here, son.

It’s what I wish I had told you night after night when you were leaving out or coming in—but I just wasn’t there. Again, I say I’m sorry. Learn from my mistakes and be better than me.

It wasn’t your fault. None of it. This is all on me.

I’ll leave you with this: trust no man who is not trustworthy. Find out who you are and what your purpose is. Pray to God that He would give you understanding and peace.

Treat people the way you want to be treated, but be ready to protect yourself. Know everyone who is in your circle and keep your circle small. Be wise with the fruits of your labor. Be selective with your seed.

From one lone wolf to another—stay strong, my son. I love you.

This is what your father would have loved to have told you.

Now smoke that over.
