Who you with is one of the questions that Chicago’s own the late great Bernie Mac used to say when he came out on stage. He knew that the audience was with him by the thunderous applause he received.
I had a chance to catch the last inning of the 2018 World Series and I noticed that the stadium was filled with Boston Red Sox fans that were made up of men and women, boys and girls, black and white and a whole lot of different ethnic backgrounds and people who had different personal preferences.
All coming together with one common goal to root for their beloved Boston Red Sox. As it was the same for the LA Dodgers. People coming together with one common goal loving their favorite team. Team. Team, that’s it, team.
People can come together when they are on the same team or routing for one team, that’s it; this is how we bring people together. We see it every Sunday with our favorite football team. We rally behind the team of our choice and come together with those whom agree that we have the best team or group that we are closely related to.
Maybe it just groups of people coming together with the same common goal. We have similar ideas that we all agree on and this makes up our group. Or maybe we wear the same uniform army, Navy, Air Force, Marines coming together with one common goal.
Maybe we are the boys in blue and we come together because we work together. Or maybe we all can agree on one color of clothing that we all like blue for Crips or red bloods. You can probably see where I am going with this.
We come together for the most trivial reasons but the most important reason we should come together is the hardest. We are all human and that should be the motivating factor that brings us together. In God’s eyes we are all brothers and sisters. Let’s come together on that despite our differences.
